În anii ‘80 erau numai reclame corny? Colgate Madness
E adevărat, noi n-am prea devorat publicitate în anii ‘80, decît doar reclamele la ultimul congres PCR sau la lupta pentru pace: ţineţi minte panourile care împînzeau oraşul? mutra lui Ceauşescu era mai omniprezentă chiar decît e astăzi mutra lui Miluţ!… După ‘90 s-au revărsat însă reclamele optzeciste pe stil occidental: şlăgăroase, dansante, deseori cu desfăşurări ample de music-hall… şi musai cu oameni fericiţi! Era acel zîmbet de plastic de care rîdem la galele Publivorilor; era acea fericire conformă teoretizată de François Brune (stîngistul radical care a influenţat generaţii întregi de tineri publicitari români, mai dihai decît autorii fundamentali, dintr-un simplu hazard al bibliografiei universitare).
Am pescuit însă această parodie la Baggy Trousers, cîntecul de prin ‘85-86 al trupei Madness, “performată” de un band de copii englezi. Această reclamă ar fi putea fi difuzată şi azi, fără să încalce normele de distribuire a copiilor în reclame: e vorba de o pastă haioasă pentru copii, colorată, mentolată şi geluită.
Dedicaţie cui a dansat în acei ani pe Madness; cui a încercat, împreună cu the mates, să le imite celebrul pas în şir indian; dar şi cui, îngreţoşat de prea mult siropel optzecist, crede că toate reclamele muzicale sînt neapărat corny; şi mai ales cui s-a săturat de recomandarea uniunii asociaţiilor dentiştilor stomatologi…

Oh, now I understand why Romanian lyricists prefer to stick with English when they write for the Eurovision song contest: there are too many English words without a Romanian equivalent. Among them, “corny”, “mates” and “band”. As someone who has a few Romanian acquaintances, I get it why this country have no concept of “mates”, though I can’t comment on “band”. But “corny”, for G’s sake, how can’t you have a word for that, when there’s so much corniness in that country? It’s got me beat!

Pt. o clipă mi-am zis: aleluia, duhul lui Pruteanu îmi transmite în engleză! Dar m-am resemnat: nea Pruty s-ar fi prins că anglismele mele sînt stileme de context. Poanta finală m-a distrat. Care eşti?

And he knows a thing or two about literary stylistics, how nice! It seems like some kind of pattern in this country… when I came here, the taxi driver whom I met at the airport said he used to be a teacher. A Polish plumber is a Polish plumber – but with Romanians you never know… Though I must admit that Joe the Plumber wasn’t a real plumber either…

corn syrup! you’re the definition of corny, man! And trite! And hackneyed! Gee!…
Romanians have “obo” for corny. “obo” is the short for “obosit”. Or “rasuflat”. Or “fas”. Or “insipid”. or “nesarat”. or “ce sa spun!?!”. or “bleah!”. or “Moama, mosule, esti tare cum e tabu’n planetare!” Or thousands of interjections or expretions or new words ready to express dullness and inutility and abusive use of something.

And Pruty is the short for Pruteanu, a funny clown who mastered Romanian to the point to have a very funny and popular TV show about Romanian Grammar. He got mad entering politics. He’s food for trees now.

Reclamele la pasta de dinti sunt condamnate la “corneala” pentru ca spun acelasi lucru de 40 de ani. Neavand ce spune, reinventeaza totul, acum cu granule de uraniu, cu untura de furnici care-ajuta dintii mici, cu petale de camila, ce albeste fara mila, cu mici sfere de Xenon, ce te face sa fii om si cu orce rahatis numai sa cumperi fatis!

…prefer o singura reclama la pasta de dinti unirea, cea cu “mutra lui Ceauşescu”. Daca n-a fost ar trebui sa se inventeze, etc.
